Here’s a good rule of thumb: If the Israeli government says something happened a certain way, it’s a good bet that it’s a lie. You know, just like you wouldn’t take at face value anything Putin or Orbán says. Or Donald Trump. (Or anyone, ever, really, but with this collection of shmucks you have to be extra careful.)
Here’s another good rule of thumb: If violence happens among soccer fans, it’s a good bet that no one is entirely innocent. After all, the whole of the cross-sectional, transnational, multi-billion-dollar professional athletic institution invests about the same effort into regularly telling its fans to not be racist as it does to keeping its pitches green.
